How Many Times Has Kiefer Sutherland Been Arrested?
By WILLIAM KENNEDY
History - Science
Kiefer Sutherland has a history of breaking the law. He’s had six total arrests, starting with a string of alcohol-related incidents dating to 1989 for driving while intoxicated.
Sutherland’s first arrest in 1989 was for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. He also faced charges of having a concealed and loaded weapon, but they were dropped.
Four years later, Sutherland was arrested again for DUI in 1993. He pleaded no contest and chose to perform more than 200 hours of community service instead of jail time.
In 2004, a drunk driving arrest landed Sutherland five years probation. Three years later in 2007, he was arrested again on suspicion of DUI and given a 48-day prison sentence.
13 years later, Sutherland made an illegal U-turn in Hollywood and failed a sobriety test conducted by LAPD. He was booked in jail and released later that morning on $25,000 bail.
In 2009, Sutherland surrendered to police after he was accused of assault in Manhattan. According to the complaint, he allegedly head-butted designer Jack McCollough.
Sutherland was ticketed, and a court appearance was set, but he apologized and charges were dropped. Reportedly, the altercation took place at a bar, but no alcohol was involved.
In 2016, Sutherland told Jess Cagle, "I would rather work really hard so I could still have some of those times than to just simply stop [drinking]. [...] I live with that choice."
