MARILYN MONROE'S HIGHEST-RATED MOVIE ACCORDING
TO ROTTEN TOMATOES
By LESLIE VELIZ
History - Science
Marilyn Monroe was almost always cast as a stereotypical dumb blonde in her brief nine year Hollywood career; however, in reality, this was far from the truth. Despite this, Hollywood never seemed to take her seriously and perhaps this is the reason Monroe's highest rated movie, according to Rotten Tomatoes, is widely disregarded.
Released in 1952, "Don't Bother to Knock" is a black and white film that centers on a pilot named Jed Towers (Richard Widmark) who is dumped by his girlfriend and pursues Nell Forbes (Monroe), a babysitter. At first, she is timid and reserved, but Monroe's character slowly descends into madness, and her behavior changes with every turn.
In the role of "Don't Bother to Knock," Monroe used method acting as well as her own experience with mental illness, demonstrating that she was more than simply a pretty face. Instead of being a typical damsel in distress, Monroe's psychotic break in the film demonstrates that she was a force to be reckoned with.
