The Breakup Song Alanis Morissette Wrote About Her Ex Ryan Reynolds

History - Science
After hitting it off at Drew Barrymore’s birthday party in 2002, singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette and actor Ryan Reynolds became engaged in 2004. They seemed to be very much in love, but they announced their separation a mere three years later in 2007; while it’s unknown why they split, it's been hinted that the publicity of their high-profile romance was to blame.
In 2008, Morissette released her album “Flavors of Entanglement” which centers around the demise of her relationship with Reynolds. The song "Torch" is about her grief regarding the breakup, with the lyrics diving deep into what Morissette misses about Reynolds, and it's clear that the end of the relationship was incredibly painful.
Morissette later said that she hit rock bottom after the engagement was called off, and that the album was cathartic. However, there's a happy ending for both her and Reynolds: she married the rapper Souleye in 2010 and now has three children with him, while Reynolds married and divorced actress Scarlett Johansson before marrying Blake Lively in 2014.
