THE STORY OF ANGELA LANSBURY'S RELATIONSHIP WITH PETER SHAW
By ALEXANDRA SIMON
History - Science
Angela Lansbury has sadly passed away at the age of 96, following a decades-long career. Lansbury was married twice, first to Richard Cromwell, and later to Peter Shaw, to whom she would be married for over 54 years.
Angela Lansbury married actor Richard Cromwell in 1945, within a year of moving to Hollywood. However, they divorced when Lansbury discovered he was gay, although they would remain friends until his death in 1960.
In 1946, Lansbury met her future husband, Peter Shaw, at an event for actors, and they were married in 1949, going on to welcome two children — a boy named Anthony in 1952, and a year later, a daughter named Deirdre. Even between the family moving to Ireland to prevent their children from spiraling to drugs and later coming back to the states, the tight-knit couple stayed true to their vows.
Shaw co-founded a production company with his sons David (from a previous marriage) and Anthony, which produced his wife's famous show, "Murder, She Wrote.” Sadly, their decades-long marriage would only end with the death of Shaw in 2003 at the age of 84.
