Grammy-award winning guitarist Jeff Beck died on January 10, 2023, at the age of 78, as Pitchfork reports. Beck's cause of death was a sudden case of bacterial meningitis, according to a statement from Beck's family.

In addition to a number of collaborations, Beck was a member of the Yardbirds and The Jeff Beck Group, and he also released solo albums. However, as Beck explained in a 2010 interview with Alice Cooper, there were two other bands he could have been a part of, which would have undeniably changed history.

David Gilmour joined Pink Floyd in the late ‘60s, right before founding member Syd Barrett left, but Gilmour revealed in 2009 that the band was actually considering adding Jeff Beck instead. Beck was shocked to learn this from Gilmour, telling Alice Cooper, "I never would have thought they would have given me the light of day."

The other classic rock group Jeff Beck could have been a part of was The Rolling Stones, who he collaborated with a few times. He was given the offer to join in 1976, but he instead suggested Ron Wood, who has been a member of the band ever since.
