History - Science
As England’s longest reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II gained a lot of respect from people around the world. Elton John isn’t the only celebrity who has kind words for the queen, as Rod Stewart called her loss “devastating,” but Stewart’s wife will actually play a role in the queen’s memorial.
Stewart’s wife, Penny Lancaster, is a special constable with the City of London police, and she will stand in as a police officer during the funeral of Queen Elizabeth. During the initial memorial service held at St. Paul’s Cathedral the day after the Queen’s death, Lancaster was present in her uniform.
Lancaster said, “I signed the oath of Office of Constable to Her Majesty the Queen just over a year ago.” Now that the queen has passed, Lancaster shared, “My oath will now be with the king.”
