Princess Anne recently made history by participating in the royal tradition — initially performed only by princes — called the Vigil of the Princes, as she stood guard by the late Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin for 10 minutes together with her siblings, including King Charles III. Anne, the only daughter of the late monarch, was just three years old when her mother was crowned queen in 1953.
While Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Anne have had their fair share of disagreements, the duo shared a close relationship, and the princess was often seen in the company of her mother during royal engagements. Days after her mother’s death, Anne released a statement revealing how thankful she was to have been able to spend the last 24 hours of the queen’s life by her side.
In 2002, Princess Anne also reacted to the claims that her mother was uncaring and said she understood her mother's responsibilities as a monarch. "I don't believe any of us for a second thought she didn't care for us in exactly the same way as any mother did," Anne stated, however, the princess did once reveal that she disliked the publicity that came with her mother being the Queen of England.
