What To Know About JFK And Jackie's Only Surviving Child
By WILLIAM KENNEDY
History - Science
John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy had four children, but only one lived until old age: their second child, Caroline Bouvier Kennedy.
JFK and Jackie’s first child, Arabella, was stillborn. John Jr. was born in 1960 but died tragically in 1999, and their second son, Patrick, died shortly after his birth in 1963.
When Caroline Kennedy was born in 1957, she inspired a newfound sense of duty and responsibility in JFK after the loss of their first stillborn child, Arabella.
She was only 3 years old when her father became president and 6 years old when he was assassinated. She has yet to run for office but followed her family’s legacy into politics.
Caroline is a lawyer and author who has served as the U.S. ambassador to Japan and Australia and even endorsed Obama in 2008. She married Edwin Arthur Schlossberg in 1986.
In a video created for the JFK Library, Caroline referred to her famous father when she said, “I have thought about him and missed him every day of my life.”
