In early 2022, the FBI warned that cyberattacks posed a threat to the Winter Olympics in Beijing, and while the events went smoothly, security experts are now worried about Queen Elizabeth II's funeral. London has a population of 9.5 million people, and 750,000 are expected to travel to the U.K. to honor the queen, so this massive crowd could be a security issue.
Bob Broadhurst was the gold commander for the royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine, and he also worked the London 2012 Olympics. He’s been working alongside thousands of military personnel to ensure nothing happens at the queen’s funeral, and he believes this funeral to be even more difficult to manage than the Olympics.
Broadhurst revealed, “The royal family will be in open-top carriages, riding horses. And that crowd of however many millions that will be on the streets have not been searched and cannot be searched. It's absolutely frightening.” However, it should be noted that the London Olympics deployed the British Empire's largest military detail since World War II and was not affected by rioting as had been predicted.
