New Star Wars details revealed

J.J. Abrams and the folks at Disney have released a slew of new Star Wars: The Force Awakens photos today, and with them come something else: tons of new clues about the story. That disturbance in the force you feel is millions of souls crying out in excitement.

So just what potential spoilers do we learn from these photos? Well, some rumors gain traction, while others are outright laughed off. Rey, it seems, was abandoned on the planet Jakku when she was 5 years old and has been waiting for her parents to return—which, combined with earlier clips of Han Solo returning "home" and taking Rey under his wing, certainly suggest that she is indeed Han and Leia's daughter.

On the other hand, star Daisy Ridley dismissed the idea that her staff is the lightsaber of Emperor Palpatine's old master. "I mean everyone is praying that it's Darth Plagueis' staff. But… it's just a staff."

Among the other tidbits to be gleaned from the photo spread are the fact that Kylo Ren is not Kylo's real name, but a pseudonym he takes up after joining The First order; that Finn and Poe apparently meet while Finn is a stormtrooper, and Finn may save Poe by switching places (and outfits) with him; and that the lightsaber duel between Kylo and Finn has a third participant, as Rey is also in the fight.

Geek. Out.
