Travis Kelce Is Worth A Lot More Money Than You Think
In his role as tight end for the Super Bowl-bound Kansas City Chiefs, Travis Kelce has reached "uncharted statistical territory," per ESPN. In fact, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was inspired to respond to a tweet from Bleacher Report pointing out that Kelce was the first tight end in NFL history to play five 1,000-yard seasons with his own succinct comment: "OPOY," meaning Kelce should be named Offensive Player of the Year.
As reported by Sports Illustrated, Kelce is having the best season of his career of (so far) eight years. He broke the record for single-season receiving yards by a tight end and became the first Chief as well as the NFL's first tight end to have multiple 100-catch seasons. To top it all off, despite all of his personal successes, Kelce remains an avowed team player, telling Sports Illustrated, "I really don't get caught up in the personal accolades, I work my tail off to just try to be the best teammate and best player I can be for this organization on and off the field."
Kelce almost went completely broke
One would assume that a football player who has broken multiple team and NFL records would be well paid, and in the case of Travis Kelce, that is absolutely true. Per Celebrity Net Worth, he signed a four-year deal with the Chiefs in 2013 for $3.12 million. It was re-upped in 2016 with a five-year extension worth $46 million.
Like lots of celebrities who suddenly come into a lot of money, Kelce went through a lot of the cash from his first contract. According to Sportscasting, in an interview with Shannon Sharpe, Kelce shared that he "should have been on the 30 for 30 Broke the way I was spending my money." Purchases included the limited edition self-lacing Nike MAGS modeled after Marty McFly's sneakers from Back To The Future II and a Rolex watch.
Fortunately, he seems to have learned some budgeting techniques. In addition to his contract, worth millions of dollars, Kelce has some lucrative endorsement deals. The Street notes that he starred in a McDonald's commercial and has launched his own nutritional brand, Hilo Nutrition, and lifestyle brand, TruKolors. He even had his very own dating show on E! in 2016, titled Catching Kelce, on which women competed to date him. It wasn't a hit, but it presumably brought in at least some money, adding to Kelce's net worth, which is estimated at an impressive $20 million.
