The Stunning Net Worth Of Michigan Basketball Coach Juwan Howard

Juwan Howard is, without a doubt, one of the most decorated names in the history of University of Michigan basketball. After carving his legacy with the Wolverines as part of their vaunted "Fab Five" recruiting class, Howard went on to a long and successful NBA career, where he won two championship rings, among other accolades. When his playing days were behind him, he accepted a job as his old college team's head coach in 2019. So far, it looks like he's continued his winning ways as a coach, having most recently led the Wolverines to the No. 1 seed in the East Region of this year's NCAA men's basketball tournament, per the Detroit Free Press.

Given his success as a player and as a coach, it's not surprising that Howard has amassed quite an impressive net worth over the years. But just how much is he worth, and how did he earn that fortune to begin with?

Howard earned over $150 million during his 19-year NBA career

After a three-year career playing for Michigan in the NCAA, Howard entered the 1994 NBA Draft and was selected fifth overall by the Washington Bullets — who would change their name to the Wizards a few seasons later. As shown on his Basketball-Reference page, the 6-foot-9-inch, 240-pound power forward didn't take too long to make an impression in the NBA, making the 1995 All-Rookie Team and playing in his first and only All-Star Game during his sophomore pro campaign. Per Bleacher Report, he was also notable for becoming the league's first $100-million man when the Bullets re-signed him to a seven-year contract in the summer of 1996.

Howard didn't earn any other individual honors, but he did win two championship rings with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013, right around the tail-end of his playing days.

In 19 NBA seasons with eight teams, Howard posted career averages of 13.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists and shot 46.9 percent from the field — all very solid numbers for one of the better power forwards of his generation. He earned almost $151.5 million over the course of that career, with his biggest single-season payday coming when he earned $20.6 million with the Denver Nuggets in the 2002-03 campaign.

Howard's net worth is estimated at $80 million

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Howard is currently valued at $80 million, which is little more than half of his NBA career earnings, but still quite an impressive figure for a retired basketball star. It seems to have helped that he dabbled a bit in acting in the 1990s, as he made guest appearances on television shows such as The West Wing, where he played a former Duke Blue Devils basketball player, and had a part in the documentary film Hoop Dreams. The 48-year-old also runs the Juwan Howard Foundation, which conducts basketball programs for underprivileged youth in the Chicago and Washington, D.C., areas.
