Iggy Pop Is Worth A Lot More Than You Think

Iggy Pop: Sometimes a singer, sometimes an actor, sometimes a producer, pretty much always shirtless. The "Godfather of Punk" exploded on the scene in 1967 as the proto-punk frontman of the Stooges, and never really left. It's like whenever someone thinks: "Hey, I haven't heard about that Iggy Pop dude in a while," the man materializes with a new quality album, movie or TV role, or perhaps a Grammy lifetime achievement award.

To some, Pop is best known for his past troubles with heroin, as well as his friendship with David Bowie. Pop liked the Starman much that in 2016, he told the New York Times that Bowie had "resurrected" him during their time in Berlin, which led to Bowie's classic Berlin Trilogy, as well as Pop's influential The Idiot. Still, with songs like "The Passenger," "Search and Destroy," "I Wanna Be Your Dog," and the legendary Trainspotting anthem "Lust for Life" at his disposal, Pop is certainly a legendary figure in the annals of rock. But how much money has his colorful, long history left him with? Quite a lot, actually. Iggy Pop might very well be worth a lot more than you think.

Iggy Pop is worth $20 million

As Deutche Welle's 2017 article celebrating Iggy Pop's 70th birthday notes, the man born James Newell Osterberg, Jr. spent many, many years struggling with heroin, a substance that ultimately disbanded The Stooges in 1974. As such, it's easy to assume that an old rock star with a longtime substance abuse issue might not be all that wealthy.

That may seem logical line of thinking, but then again, Pop and The Stooges did reunite in 2003. They released new music, and toured a lot, and were eventually inducted in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in 2010. He picked up a side gig as an actor, collaborating with director Jim Jarmusch in multiple films. Oh, and he's kept his solo career going, as well. In other words, Pop has managed to survive his wild and successful youth and his drug use, and turn into a still surprisingly ripped elderly statesman of rock. This reflects quite well on his personal finances, seeing as according to Celebrity Net Worth, Pop's net worth is no less than $20 million.
