Jerome "Jerry" Brudos, who is commonly referred to as "The Lust Killer" and "The Shoe Fetish Slayer," is accused of killing at least four women in the state of Oregon between 1968 and 1969. Biography reports Brudos' shoe fetish started with a pair of women's high-heeled shoes, which he found at a local junkyard. When he brought the shoes home and was caught wearing them, he was berated by his mother. However, her reaction did not deter him from developing an increased interest in women's clothing and shoes.

At the age of 17, Brudos committed his first abduction and assault, and was subsequently sent to a mental health facility. Unfortunately, his crimes continued to escalate, as he continued stealing women's clothing and shoes, and reportedly assaulted a number of women as well.

Jerry Brudos was eventually arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder. Biography reports he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences per the terms of a plea agreement.

Unlike many serial killers, Brudos was married with two children when he began his killing spree. When Brudos was arrested and charged with multiple counts of murder, his wife said she had no prior knowledge of his criminal activities.

What we know about serial killer Jerome Brudos' wife

Darcie Brudos, who was married to Jerry Brudos for eight years, was aware of her husband's fetish for women's clothing and shoes, as he often wore them around the house. However, as reported by Listverse, Darcie clearly missed a number of very disturbing warning signs and ignored years of unusual behavior. He also encouraged Darcie to walk around the house nude, with the exception of a pair of high heels. According to reports, he often forbade Darcie from leaving the house or entering certain parts of the house without Jerry's permission.

Listverse reports Brudos installed an intercom system so Darcie could ask his permission before the attic and the garage — where he reportedly raped, tortured, and eventually killed his victims. When questioned by police, Darcie said she never heard anything unusual coming from any of the rooms.

Darcie Brudos knew her husband often left their home late at night, and returned with articles of women's clothing and shoes. She was also aware that he had a darkroom, where he developed photos of nude women. However, she did not seem to be concerned about unusual behavior.

As reported by Listverse, Darcie Brudos was arrested along with her husband, and charged as an accomplice. A neighbor initially claimed she saw Darcie and Jerome Brudos carrying an unconscious woman. However, as the witness was discredited during trial, and there was no other proof, the case against Darcie was dismissed.
